FISH STUDY: A SHOCKING EXPERIENCE
JULY 2019
Lake Freedom engaged a professional organization to shock the lake and determine the general health, size, and population mix of fish. All three lake segments were tested. Most importantly we have developed a road map of how to grow build on and improve the Lakes ecosystem.
Health: The great news is the study reflected a very healthy fish population throughout the different species of fish.
Mix: We identified a great mix of fish. As most of you know, we confirmed notable populations of:
Largemouth Bass Smallmouth Bass Several species of Catfish Bluegill Sunfish Crappie Trout Walleye Shiners Minnows Hybrid/Striper Bass Other miscellaneous fish.
Conclusions: An action plan was developed to guide us over the next several years:
We developed a feeding plan We developed a genetic health plan
Action Taken: As a result, in the fall of 2019 we spent almost $16,000 on feeder fish to enhance the lake and fatten up the fish you like to catch. We have just added about 2,000 pounds of minnows and shiners and 2500 bluegill to the lake.
We will duplicate this shortly, in the early spring-time.
In addition, we will continue to introduce additional largemouth, smallmouth, crappie etc. to mix the gene pool and keep the population healthy. We are doing so only through certified fisheries.
We are looking to get the frog and crayfish populations up as well.
